  1. Well, after an interesting chain of events or three, which left me with much 
  2. bigger things to worry about, I'm back.
  3.  
  4. OK, so much for the formal introduction. For those of you who do not know me, 
  5. I am the former ZC and chief promoter of DuckNet. Over the past year or so, 
  6. activity has dropped for various reasons, however, it is my belief that this 
  7. is the "calm before the storm" and we're about to have another upswing in
  8. activity before too long.

  10. I started DuckNet as an alternative to FidoNet and other networks which, 
  11. IMHO, were even more annoying in their policies than Fido itself. As much as 
  12. I can see the reasoning behind lack of a formal network policy document, I've
  13. been on nets before where the complete or partial lack of policy translated
  14. at worst into a dictatorship, or at the very least something unpleasantly
  15. different from what the very short written policy document would otherwise
  16. denote.

  18. A few quickies on DuckNet's overall policies and benefits:

  20. * No minimum age to join
  21. * No age/sex/race restrictions allowed on echos
  22. * Handles allowed on echos at moderator's discretion
  23. * BRE league (one at present (750), soon to be two)
  24. * VGA Planets game(s) starting soon
  25. * Exclusive use of zone number (translation: no conflicts with other networks
  26. you may be on)
  27. * Several active echos

  30. Wes also (at least LTIC) had the info packet DUCKKIT.ZIP available for file
  31. request. It is available on my board (1-713-692-8527) at 28800 v.FC for
  32. download to first time callers (Portal of Power's FREQ capability is not
  33. working right now for some reason). I would show a Fido address, but due to 
  34. local politics and problems, I don't have one yet... working on it though.
